The Chinese Academy of Engineering conducts its academicians by-election once every two years, making selection as an effective candidate a highly rigorous and competitive process.

For the 2025 by-election, a total of 660 effective candidates were confirmed across eight divisions and one special channel. Inclusion in this list reflects national-level recognition of sustained academic excellence, scientific contribution, and impact on industry and society.

About the Medical and Health Division of the Chinese Academy of Engineering

According to the published list of effective candidates for the 2025 by-election, the Medical and Health Division ranked first in both number and proportion, with 91 candidates accounting for 13.79% of the total, tied with the Civil, Water Conservancy, and Architectural Engineering Division.

This highlights the growing strategic importance of medical science, healthcare innovation, and public health in China’s engineering and technological development.

About Professor Wang Ningli

Professor Wang Ningli is a member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Head of the National Technical Steering Group for Blindness Prevention. He serves as Dean of the School of Ophthalmology at Capital Medical University, is an Academician of the International Academy of Ophthalmology, President of the Ophthalmologists Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, and Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese Journal of Ophthalmology.

He is also a council member of the World Glaucoma Association and the Asia-Pacific Glaucoma Society. Over the past 35 years, Professor Wang has been deeply engaged in ophthalmic clinical practice and scientific research, has completed approximately 20,000 surgeries, and has served as an expert consultant for central government healthcare.
